Volleyball Venue Under Village Watch

The Games volleyball venue inside the National University of Samoa Campus is under the watch of the traditional authority of chiefs and orators of Maagiagi Village.

The village role is in support of the Ministry of Police regular security service to ensure the event is run smoothly.

Maagiagi orator, Tiauli Magiagi, confirmed the village support in response to a request from the police, whose numbers are severely stretched.

PNG volleyball team dedicate performance to late captain

The Papua New Guinea men’s volleyball team has dedicated their winning drive at the Pacific Games to their team captain who passed away last Tuesday, as the team were making final preparations for travel to Samoa.

The XIV Pacific Games was to be the 5th for the late 36-year-old captain, Ravu Mahuru.

The PNG team will honour the memory of the late team leader and oldest playing volleyball player in the Pacific, with a minute of silence before their first scheduled game this week.

Final Year Nursing Student Juggle Games and Studies

There will be no rest for a 25 year old final year nursing student when she takes her holiday break from studies next month in July.

Taikerise Faasi’i will be huffing and puffing on court, as a member of Team Samoa’s women volleyball team at the Pacific Games here in Apia, scheduled for two weeks.

The road she is taking is a tight one with a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing she wants to complete this year and representing Samoa in volleyball.
