The Marist Old Pupils Association, MOPA, executive and senior association members paid tribute to former President, Moananu Ioane Filemu, who was laid to rest yesterday.
Moananu passed away from ill health at 68.
“ He was a leader and a humble person as well, his last name Filemu says it all,” Tuala Farani Chan Tung said in eulogy at the family service on Thursday.
Moananu was MOPA president from 2000-2002 with Tuala as his vice-President to during his tenure as leader of the old pupils association.
Moananu and his executive were credited for organising the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the school.
He was the St. Joseph’s College head boy in his last year in 1971 and was also the athletic team captain and a champion high jumper.
He joined the Bank of Samoa as a staff member when he graduated from school. He went on to work with the National Pacific Insurance before he became general manager of Progressive Insurance.
He was Chairman of the Land Transport Authority and was retired when he passed away.
