Despite the hot sun yesterday, 15 schools from around Upolu came out at the Apia Park to practice their performance for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Pacific Games
Students wearing hats and long sleeved shirts with coordinators wearing long pants with long sleeved shirts with hats as well to avoid the burning sun still managed to put up a smile.
Students of Anoama’a College from Lepa and Lotofaga who spoke to Newsline Samoa said that they had to get up early around 5am to catch the bus so they could attend the rehearsal.
When their turn to join the performing line they did so with cheerful faces.
The Ministry of Education Sports and culture, MESC, has organised the whole performance into patterns with each school wearing different colors.
Choreographers will call out the parts allocated for each school who will then move into performing roles.
CEO of MESC, Afamasaga Dr Karoline who is the Director of the program was amongst many officials who were present during the all-day rehearsal.
Parents and relatives of students who were performing filled up parts of the stadium witnessing the performance as it unfolded in colorful and eye catch patterns.
Speaking to Newsline, Papali’i Peone who is ACEO of Cultural division of MESC said that running the performances so that students get the feel of their assigned roles is very crucial.
Papali’i said that more than 3000 students will be performing for the opening of Pacific Games with a little over 500 students from other schools in the choir
The students will weave into their performance the theme Momoli laau i Foga’a with the story of Leatiogie and his blind father Fe’epo, a traditional tale with a touch of the traditional game Aigofie.
