The Opening Ceremony has come and gone but it has left a lasting impression on Samoa’s Golden Girl of weightlifting Ms Ele Opeloge.
Ele Opeloge who is no stranger to huge events is deeply honored to carry the torch and light the Games cauldron to kick off the 2019 Pacific Games.
"It was an honor to carry the torch and light the cauldron and I was overwhelmed by the support of families as well as the whole of Samoa for allowing me to carry out this honour," Opeloge said.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to also be a part of Samoa’s great team of flag bearers. I thank God for this blessing and the support of families and friends."
Ele is part of the Pacific Games as a mentor to Samoa’s young competing weightlifters, including Samoa’s current golden Girl and flag bearer Ms Feagaiga Stowers.
Ele Opeloge is Samoa’s only Olympic medal winner after she won a silver medal from the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
During her time as a Pacific Games athlete she also dominated the Games in 2007 winning several Gold medals in her category as well as smashing many Games records along the way.
Team Samoa Weightlifting has maintained Samoa’s dominance at the Games with a huge haul of medals at the Pacific, Oceania and Commonwealth competition at Faleata Sports Gymnasium yesterday.
