The Solomon Is. leader added to the praises of Samoa for hosting a successful Games and recognizing at the same time the contribution by the athletes.
Sogavare saluted the Government and People of Samoa for the effort that went into putting the Games together in Apia.
The athletes and their performance were congratulated as well that “..shows the best of the Pacific .”
“ In July 2023 the Solomon Islands will host the Games the Solomon Way,” he promised while noting that the standard of the Games have been lifted.
“We have been watching Samoa closely and we will do our best to match it.”
The lowering of the Games flag was one of the poignant moments of the closing ceremony as part of the ritual at the end of every Games.
The next time the flag is unfurled and allowed to flutter in the wind while the Games are underway, is in the Solomon Is. capital Honiara in just over 3 years time.
The folded Games flag was handed over to a representative of the next hosts to start the process in putting together the next sports gathering for members of the island region.
