Savai’i turned on the magic as the host island for boxing to inspire 7 gold medal wins from what fans have dubbed the ‘Golden 7’.

Six male and one lone female made history as the first gold medal winners in the only sporting event of the Pacific Games, held on the big island.

Samoa’s gold rush had slowed down after the weightlifting and the local supporters main added medal hopes were on the boxers to pick up the slack.

The boxers delivered big time.

Boxing at the Don Bosco Hall at Salelologa, brought heralded new champions with Faasu Loia in the women’s 69-75kg division.

The 6 gold medals for the men came from Nuuuli Mose (60kg), Marion Faustino Ah Tong (69kg), Jancen Poutoa (75kg), Ato Leau Plodzicki Faoagali (81kg), Afaese Hugo Fata Kalepi (91kg) and Filimaua Hala (91kg+).

A bronze medal went to Alai Faauila.
