The Samoa Medical Association President, Fuimaono Dr. Aleki Fuimaono, has confirmed that private doctors are already helping with the treatment of the victims of the measles epidemic.

The confirmation comes after the Prime Minister , Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, called on the private medical practitioners to contribute their time and skills by working together with doctors in public health.

Fuimaono said private doctors are already  serving in all hospitals within a regular 24 hour roster.

“ As President of the Samoa Medical Association, I can confirm that all members of the association are giving priority to the treatment of all the patients in this epidemic,” Fuimaono said.

He vouched for the full commitment from doctors who have set aside all their other commitments to dedicate their time and energy to the heavy workload.

“The priority is to try and save lives, especially the children and everywhere you walk in the hospital  you will not find anyone standing idle.

“Our medical association members are giving 100% to fight this epidemic and putting in a lot of personal sacrifice into their work.”

The PM called on the help of the private doctors as the epidemic continues with the death toll mounting, mostly for the young children.

He said the country is in need of  the doctors God given skills at this time.
