Measles Death Toll At 55, Slows Down To 2 In 24 Hours

The new death toll is now recorded at 55 with 2 more added within the last 24 hours, in the latest update from the Ministry of Health.

The death rate is 3 less compared to 5 who died in the previous update within the same 24-hour period when the total death toll went up to 53.

The Ministry of Health confirms a total of 3,881 measles cases reached, 153 recorded in the last 24 hours. 

The count is compared to 198 within the same 24-hour period in the previous update.

There are currently 174 measles cases who are in-patients at all health facilities, compared to 183 in the previous update.

The current admission numbers include 145 at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital (TTMH), 4 at Poutasi District Hospital, 20 at the Leulumoega Rural District Hospital, 4 at the Malietoa Tanumafili II Hospital (MTIIH) and 1 at Sataua District Hospital.  Admissions include 18 critically ill children in ICU/HDU and 2 pregnant women and 2 postnatal at TTMH.

The total number of measles cases admitted to all hospitals recorded for the outbreak to date is 1,178.  Of that, 949 (81%) patients have been discharged.

A 2% increase in recovery rate over since the last update.
