Mothers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Alamagoto Ward gathered Friday night to celebrate motherhood during an ‘Island Night’ event that brought the music and dance of Fiji, Tonga and Samoa to the Maliu Mai stage.
Mothers of all ages, and their husbands, were treated to dinner, dessert, music, dancing and entertainment provided by the mothers and young women of the Ward.
Alamagoto Ward’s senior mothers were presented with special-made gift baskets by Island Night organizers.
Mothers and fathers showcased their singing skills during a talent show. Selections penned by Samoan recording artists honouring their mothers were heard during the show. A humourous rendition of Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary” was also performed.
Island Night was organized by the Alamagoto Ward Relief Society led by its President Sister Tiresa Joseph, First Counselor Sister Mereseke Laulu, Second Counselor Sister Filoi Talia and Secretary T. Avei.
Alamagoto Ward’s Relief Society, called the “Aualofa,” wishes all mothers of Samoa a blessed happy Mother’s Day!
