Events that shaped 2018

It was in early October that the sudden death of the Unit Trust Of Samoa’s CEO Sa’u Justina Sa’u caught public attention.

The 42 year old was at her prime at her untimely death and it brought a huge emotional outpouring of love and sorrow from working colleagues, friends and many who knew her, at the news of her death.

A startling turn of events at the cause of her death came after police preliminary investigations suspected suicide.

But it was a postmortem on the body to officially determine the cause of death, that pointed to murder.

Police arrested the husband, 38-year-old Kolani Jr. lam of Sinamoga on Tuesday 6 November 2018 and charged him with Sa’u’s murder.

He is currently held in police protective custody to await court hearing in the Supreme Court scheduled early in the New Year.

An application in court by the defendant to be remanded at liberty to await the legal hearings was unsuccessful.

Sa’u’s body was laid to rest at her home village of Manono – uta in November.
