TANUMALALA ANSWER New Prison at Tanumalala opening.

After $18.2m tala later, the Tanumalala Prison finally opened this morning. Government funded 90 per cent of the costs, in the firm belief that the new facility will make the woes of the old and porous Tafaigata Prison go away.
Prisoner escapes have turn the old prison facility into a swiveling door for any of the inmates to leave virtually at will.
Two are still at large with a special police squad assigned to hunt them down, fearful of any incidents while Samoa is entertaining regional guests at the Pacific Games.
The Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele led the large turn out of Government officials, diplomatic corps and the private and public sector communities into the new prison gates compound.
He would feel justified with his Government's decision to press ahead despite the disappointment of donor partners shying away from contributing to the funding of the development project.
The next big job left is to transport the prisoners from Tafaigata to the much tighter security enclosure at Tanumalala.
The convoy of several buses is scheduled for a relay run to transport the prison population starting tomorrow, Saturday 29 June 2019.
