The Ministry of Police has this week suspended regular early morning flag raising parades infront of the Government Building.
Only four officers are now assigned to raise the morning flag .
One is a bugler for the playing of the national anthem, two police officers to officially raise the flag and one to salute, were seen at the front of the building yesterday morning.
Newsline Samoa has learned from the Ministry of Police that added traffic duties in the busy morning rush hour demands more officers on the road.
The heavy workload was passed over when full traffic duties assigned to the Land and Transport Authority traffic division were returned to the Ministry of Police.
Members of the Police Band were assigned rush hour traffic duties in the mornings and after work.
The Ministry is looking to recruit 110 new officiers to cope with the additional work demands and review the return of the flag raising parades before the Government Building in the morning.
The raising of the flag is a long established tradition that started before the old Government Court House Building before it was relocated to the multi-storey Fiame Mataafa Building at the recalimed area.
