Supreme Court Justice Leiataualesa Daryl Clarke has sentenced a convicted a 40 year old man to 9 years and 7 months to Tanumalala Prison for the rape of a 10 year old school girl.

The defendant cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim he is reportedly related to.

There separate incidents were noted in the police summary of facts where the convicted forced himself on the victim between the 1st and 31st of March last year.

The defendant would give money to the victim after each incident to keep her silence.

Justice Leiataualesa adopted a starting point of 12 years imprisonment in making his decision.

Deductions were made for the defendant’s guilty plea, remorse and the traditional apology that was made to the family of the victim.
