The list of people in the alleged plot to kill the Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi is now up to four with one new police arrest this week.
The added suspect is yet to be identified with an official statement from the Ministry of Police. The deputy Commissioner of Police who is the only person authorized to comment was unavailable to media enquiries.
Newsline Samoa did confirm the new arrest with sources closely linked to the police investigations.
The four suspects are jointly charged with one count each of conspiring to murder PM Tuilaepa. All are to make first court appearances next week, 26th August 2019, for mention of police charges against them.
Defence counsel Unasa Iuni Sapolu, re-confirmed the four suspects, three of them are her clients.
““I have just picked up the charge sheet and all four suspects are jointly charged with 1 count of “conspiracy to murder the Prime Minister,” she said.
Unasa is under no position, however, to identify the new suspect who is not a client of hers.
“My clients for now are Malele Atofu Paulo better known as King Faipopo and Lema’i Faioso Sione, both of whom are in custody.
“ The third is Taualai Leiloa also known as Taualai Tuilaepa of Lauli’i.”
Paulo or King Faipopo is already confronted with a separate legal matter related to defamatory online accusations, alleging the involvement of PM Tuilaepa in the assassination of the late Minister of Works Luagalau Levaula Kamu.
He had initially admitted to making false statements but has applied to the court to change his plea to not guilty.
A court ruling is scheduled in the District Court to determine the next legal step for him to take.
Lema’i Sione, emerged into the public eye earlier this year as a candidate for the Samoa First Political Party, in the Fa’asaleleaga bi-elections.
His election bid was unsuccessful.
Police arrested him from his home at Nu’u last week as one of the alleged conspirators.
