Whew!

That’s the sigh of relief Manu Samoa fans in Samoa and across the globe are breathing after the team secured its spot in the Rugby World Cup 2019 set in Japan.

Hallelujah!

That’s the song of praise the nation was singing early Sunday, 15 July when the ‘Men in Blue’ delivered on the badly needed victory over Germany.

The hosts were leading 15-14 at half time, leaving the fans at home on the edge until the final minutes of the game when Samoa surged to the lead with three late tries to win.

Final score was 42-28.

“That was the only problem we had... we hadn’t made it through to the event,” said Samoa Rugby Union Chief Executive Officer Faleomavaega Vincent Fepulea’i.

“I think we’re just going to prepare well and put together a plan to do well at the Rugby World Cup.”

Faleomavaega said the SRU is grateful of the help received from the country.

“We are always appreciative of the support the team receives from the country. Always,” he said. “Hopefully we will continue to have the support of the people. We are doing everything we can to do well at the Rugby World Cup.”

Samoa is in Pool A with Ireland, Scotland, Russia and Japan.
