Local Interest In New Flare Up Over NZ Transgender Lifter

Controversy over weightlifting transgender Laurel Hubbard has flared up again in New Zealand, just a few weeks after she won two gold medals at the Pacific Games in Samoa.

Overseas news media reported that a feminist group Speak Up For Women has launched a protest campaign in New Zealand on Monday over the inaction of sport officials.

The controversy started at the Games in Apia and has now spilled over to transgender Hubbard’s home country New Zealand

USP Campus Students Celebrate Open Day

The University of the South Pacific (USP) Open Day on Friday was more than giving college level students the chance to learn more about study opportunities available at the campus.

 Students already undertaking studies also talked about their personal study experiences and the challenges they go through.

The example was senior agriculture science student, 25-year-old Eddie Tolovae of Vaivase-tai.

Pacific Games Demand Kept Flea Market Busy

The Pacific Games will be remembered by handicraft vendors at the Flea Market as giving a boost to their business.

One of these vendors is Fiumalosi Fereti Leota of Vaitele who operates two stalls at the market.

Fiumalosi was a volunteer for the Games so he had to leave his stalls to his wife and son to manage while he attended to his duties as a volunteer.

Slow Selling Stock Snapped Up During Games

The Pacific Games will be remembered by two sisters for clearing out stock which are often shelved for a bit longer before they are sold and for boost in their sales.

Seila Atimalala and her sister Rosina Talia from Vailele are overwhelmed by the huge difference the Pacific Games brought to their daily sales. The income to their business generated during the two weeks of the Games was incredible to the sisters.

NZ’s PM Jacinda Ardern Arrives In Samoa Saturday On Transit To Tokelau

The New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, is arriving in Samoa tomorrow, Saturday, on her way to an official visit to the Tokelau Islands on Sunday.

The PM will spend the night in Apia before travelling on the HMNZS Otago to the New Zealand island territory.

During her short  stopover, the  NZ leader is scheduled to take a stroll on the Apia Waterfront Events Space and the Clock Tower Boulevard on Saturday afternoon.

Tennis medalists celebrate bronze win

Winning the bronze medal for the men’s double in tennis on the second week was not an easy climb for the Soonalole brothers in the XVI Pacific Games. Their preparations for the games was an uphill climb especially getting in shape to give it their all.

Peseta Marvin Soonalole from Faleasiu, Fasitootai and Alamagoto who is a police officer  spoke to Newsline Samoa about the fight they put up to win the medal.
